From Geoinformatics Engineer to Software Test Engineer
My path in the diverse field of Informatics began in 2012 when I started my undergraduate studies at the National and Technical University of Athens in the school of Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering. During my studies, I discovered my passion and interest in computer science and software programming. Before completing my undergraduate studies, I already knew that I wanted to put myself deeper into the field of information science. Therefore, in 2018 I started working as a Geoinformatics Engineer on submarine projects. My role is associated with the management of software programs related to the measurement of sea depth and the construction of seabed morphology. 2020 is the year I started expanding my knowledge background in IT and telecommunications. I conducted my postgraduate studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the program was "Computer, Telecommunication and Network Engineering". My journey at Nokia began four months before my graduation.
Software Test Engineer
My Nokia journey started in December 2021. From day one, till now I have been a member of the Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) FastMile 4G Team. All my responsibilities are related to the Continuous Integration and Feature Testing Domains. My everyday tasks include new SW image testing, the creation of new automated Test Cases, and the update/enhancement of regression ones. The test cases we develop are based on the Python programming language and specifically on the robot framework. Other tools I use in my daily work are Jenkins, Git, Jira, and Linux systems. Generally, the FastMile 4G CI team is responsible for verifying new Fixed Wireless Access features’ code as well as identifying or reproducing bugs. When an error occurs, it is important to find its root cause and to ensure that in the future it is prevented.
Working environment and new opportunities
Nokia's philosophy is to respect everyone and create working relationships based on integrity, reliability, supportiveness, and responsibility. It simply makes my work environment exciting. In addition, my daily tasks are interesting, and I always face new challenges. I am always learning new things and gaining new and relevant skills. Every working day is a different adventure. Finally, education plays a vital role at Nokia. All employees can attend live training and webinars to strengthen their knowledge background.
Focus on your goal
One of my beliefs is that people can succeed in any field they desire, such as science, sports, music, and the arts, without having any prior innate talent. The only two things they need are a clear visible goal and the willingness to work hard. Remember that the most important accomplishments come after many dedicated hours and a long list of small failures. These setbacks should not distract you and keep you away from your purpose. In addition, always be in touch with mentors with similar career goals and paths as yours. This social engagement and your positive thinking will lead you closer to your future destination.
My postgraduate scholarship and career change
When I decided to start my postgraduate studies in Computer Engineering and Telecommunications, I realized that my previous educational background might not be enough. Therefore, I would have to overcome myself and put in more effort in order to meet the demands of the Program. After 2 years, on my graduation day, the administrators informed me that I had the highest final average grade. This success gave me the opportunity to get back all the fees I had paid during the program. The success of my master's studies was a piece of quick evidence that nothing is impossible. The first step to change my career had already been taken.
