Bindi, I worked in defense as a Mechanical Engineer and I would say any background or experience in an analytics role would help you progress into Data Science. Exposure to math and statistics really helps. Data Science requires a natural curiosity about data and problem-solving. I would say as an aerospace engineer you have these qualities. I would take some training in this space. General data science class, freshen up on your statistics, a machine learning class, and learn Python. Hope this helps.

Hi Bindi,
Thank you for getting in touch with us.
Experience in the defense industry can provide useful skills like precision and problem-solving, but to truly succeed as a data scientist, the key foundations are mathematics, statistical thinking, and broader analytical abilities — combined with curiosity, clear communication, and continuous learning.
I hope this helps! Thanks for getting in touch, and feel free to reach out anytime if you need more support.
