Additional information

I’m curious how long-term research domains influence career paths at Nokia. I’m also interested in whether the company encourages engagement with frontier technologies, even when practical or commercial use cases are still emerging.

Hello Boniface K.,

Personally, I haven't been involved in quantum tech research, but there is a team in Nokia - Nokia Bell Labs - specifically the Data & Devices Research Department who's working on this. Check out https://www.nokia.com/quantum/ for more info.

For career paths, especially related to new/emerging technologies, we are highly encouraged to allocate time for our knowledge and career growth - not only in the specific field you mentioned but in other fields and careers too. For example, you can have 1-1 meetings with your manager to discuss your technical career path and get guidance on what skills to develop for that role. Another example is the numerous internal trainings available in our internal library (and yes, sometimes I'm learning photography from our internal learning materials!).

Going back to the topic, yes long-term research opportunities are available, but one thing I'd advise is to be open and fearlessly accept challenges that come your way.

Hope this helps! Any specific areas you're curious about?

Best regards,

Casey
