Our lives are dynamic and we keep on learning something new each day which helps us explore what is out there but also what is in us that we have not necessarily realized otherwise. Keeping an open & growth-oriented mindset helps you overcome your fears and extend your accomplishments. Integrity, respect, trustworthiness, and accountability should be foundational and not be compromised. In my career, every time I stepped into unknown territory, I first tried to educate myself as much as possible, and when I struggled I also internalized it as part of the journey.

What do you like about your job and the company?

In my role, I have the opportunity to develop key initiatives that would impact the inclusion experience. This role provides me the opportunity to collaborate with a wide network of people from employee resource groups, businesses and central functions, and countries who are all working on making Nokia more diverse & inclusive. Learning new topics, communities, and cultures every day, and getting to know people across a wide range of diversity spectrum is very engaging and inspiring.

Greatest achievements

I advanced from a country role directly to a global role in one step and it has been a huge shift regarding the scope of work and level of responsibilities. In my very first assignment, I was asked to develop the Onboarding solution for an acquisition which later became the Global Onboarding solution for the entire company which made me very proud. I felt also very proud developing new concepts such as the Global Allyship program for Nokia which I believe is very instrumental for progressing the culture of inclusion.

I learned with my own personal experience, that we only know better our own culture, education, bias, and our own self, when we have lived at least few years in a different country and different culture (especially amongst locals). These (many years living in different countries and cultures) have expanded my horizon and my own identity, both professionally and especially personally. There is an emotional cost of "expatriating" oneself, but it is also truly a gift. There are many things that we cannot fully comprehend with only short visit, books or else, they have to be experienced over and over.

If you are seeking a career that will be memorable and impactful, sometimes you may need to step outside of your comfort zone and take a leap into unknown waters. I took the leap twice - once when changing my role function (from accounting to recruiting), and secondly, industry-wise when joining Nokia. I did not regret either of those decisions and I feel this is where I belong. Don't be afraid to pursue your passion, with dedication and consistency your career aspirations can become a reality.

Your dreams show what you can become. They are your hopes, what you love, and the future you want. Always be ready to learn new things. Learning helps you grow. Identify your fears and challenge them. Don't let fear hold you back from pursuing your goals and taking risks. Take responsibility for your growth, development, and success. Don't wait for others to empower you; empower yourself. Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if you think they might sound basic. Asking questions demonstrates curiosity and a desire to learn.
