I do not see employees differentiating work and personal life. The openness in the work culture keeps people engaged. The flexibility in work style, ready access to information, technology to enable remote support and openness to extend support makes the work atmosphere and culture cohesive and easy. The HR policies are employee friendly, focus on gender diversity, supports the development of soft skills, fine arts, hobbies, sports, social service etc. Thereby one of the best places to work that is evident with the tenure of Nokia employees and the pattern of homecoming.

Hi Kenwyn,
For me personally, the level of attention Nokia pays to the well-being of its employees and their work-life balance is one of the best things about working here.
For starters, Nokia promotes the idea of flexibility and motivates colleagues to focus on results rather than strict schedule. For many people this allows to organize their working day in a way that helps to spend more time with the family or simply be more productive (for example, avoid morning or afternoon traffic jams).
In addition Nokia frequently raises awareness and educates us (through seminars and courses) on various well-being areas - like mindfulness, emotional well-being, satisfaction, stress management, relaxation techniques, how to implement healthy working practices, how to develop a healthier mindset, how to be more productive and so on.
Over a period of time such initiatives really help to incorporate healthy practices and get more fulfilment from the job. In fact, I started practicing daily meditation thanks to one such initiative carried out by Nokia. A couple of years later I still do it and see it as an extremely productive practice that helps me get more done.

I have found Nokia extremely supportive of flexible working and truly do advocate a healthy work/ life balance for all employees. Flexible working arrangements are a given. The teams understand that everyone has different requirements and require flexibility - we all work together to ensure that wherever we are - office, working from home or travelling (when we can) we are enabled to participate and still be engaged. As for work/ life balance it is encouraged we do practice this.

Respecting people’s personal time and balancing work & life has been essential at Nokia. Under emails, it is common to see a disclaimer like follows “Working for a multinational company means we all have different working hours. Just because I have sent this mail now does not mean you have to reply now. We likely work different hours, and I look forward to your reply whenever you are next working.” Nokia also supports employees to find their balance, offering self-assessment, outlining what looks like and signposting to relevant resources to get support. We have also a confidential support channel open to all Nokia employees and their families. The service provides direct access to confidential and professional support and guidance, on a range of emotional, practical and work-life issues. Finally, Nokia also as an Employee Resource Group called “SharetoCare” which is employee-led, aiming to tackle the stigmas of mental health in workplace trough sharing personal stories and listening to experience of others.
