Raghavendra N. asked a question to Rahul K.
I don’t necessarily subscribe to the traditional philosophical view that “people should always stay self-motivated no matter what.” In reality, the work environment plays a huge role in sustaining focus and helping teams consistently meet deadlines.
What makes working at Nokia—especially within NI—motivating is the combination of several tangible factors:
1. Exposure to cutting‑edge technology: We get to work on some of the latest and most impactful innovations, particularly with the ongoing AI supercycle.
2. Collaborating with exceptional talent: The opportunity to work alongside highly skilled and knowledgeable individuals—who remain approachable and grounded—creates a healthy environment that encourages everyone to raise their bar.
3. Strong innovation culture: There are clear opportunities to file patents, supported by structured feedback mechanisms. This not only recognizes individual contributions but also motivates people to think beyond immediate deliverables.
4. Leadership that listens
5. Balanced work environment: While there are phases that demand extra effort, there is a conscious effort to balance it out post-delivery. This builds trust and prevents burnout in the long run.
In addition to these, a few other factors further help in keeping people motivated and deadline-driven:
1. Clear goal setting and transparency:
2. Sense of impact and purpose: As an example, I know how the features I code up are deployed and how impactful it is for billions of people!
3. Recognition and appreciation: Timely acknowledgment of effort. This is especially true. One is rewarded for the contributions.
4. Autonomy and ownership: Cant emphasize this enough. Individuals have the freedom to make decisions within their scope fosters accountability and intrinsic motivation.
Cheers and all the best !
