Hello I am Praise Onyedikachi Eubany. I recently applied for the software development co-op and I would love to know about the day to day operations of this position. Anything would help me to prepare for the interview.

A co-op term will consist of the daily tasks and lots of perks and exciting areas to focus on beyond the everyday work. You will have a mentor, you’ll have lots of engagement and networking opportunities, presentations and learning opportunities from the business as well as team building exercises among others.

Our hiring managers understand that students don't necessarily have the experience that professionals might have. And that a student's experience is mostly form school projects. So, in terms of technical skills and experience, that's now what is most important.

What's most important is how you come across in interviews and also how you build your expeience and show case yourself in your resume.

Our key goals for the interns in our team at Nokia are to ensure that the progress is two-way: one is that interns contribute to the projects or work as required, and second the hands-on learning and upskilling of interns. Since each student or intern has a different experience and skill set, the first two weeks would set the pace of work. Depending on skill level and pace, we may start with a small debugging task, and then pace it up to more intensive tasks.
Along with technical skills like coding, debugging, or testing, we also aim to provide opportunities to develop presentation skills where interns would have to present or demo a project to key stakeholders. And our interns love that part!
We also aim that interns become aware of Nokia as an organization, its different business groups, products and solutions. We hope that experience during an internship helps students envision their future in Nokia that aligns with their interests and skills.
Overall, we aim to ensure that the internship provides an experience to help build the foundation of their career.

Student positions at Nokia all vary from one another depending on what business group, project, and team you are supporting. However, in certain regions, you are joining a student community that can be large. As a student, you work on real work and impactful, important and often critical to the business. Students get one-to-one mentorship, they get training and orientation and are encouraged to learn as much from their placement. Students are often retained. They either get extended to work longer terms, are rehired, or if they are eligible and close to graduation are often the first priority when it comes to our new grad full-time openings. For more info, please check out our early careers website, it will contain more details for you and details of the region you may be interested in. https://www.nokia.com/about-us/careers/student-and-graduate-opportunities/. There are several factors we take into account when offering a student a full-time position after graduation. Timing and budget are crucial, but the student's work performance, skills, and attitude are also significant considerations. If you exceed expectations and your technical and non-technical skills match the requirements for an open position, and you are living within the regions specific programs are in place, we can extend new graduate offers up to a year before graduation. Therefore, it's very likely you will receive an offer, even if you take a break between work terms. Our student programs aim to identify top talent for potential positions, provided your skills align. I hope this clarifies things.

Thanks.

There is not one common trait as all hires are encouraged to bring their own authentic self to work. However, if I were to name a few, having good work ethic, respect, and the ability to adapt are all good traits to have in our organisation. Thanks!
