Jeremie S. asked a question to Casey C.
From a software architecture perspective, what are the biggest challenges in aligning hardware platform development with software architecture and system-level requirements at Nokia, and how can a Director of Hardware Development best contribute to improving cross-functional collaboration, architectural decisions, and time-to-market while ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability? I’d be particularly interested in understanding how hardware and software teams work together early in the development lifecycle to anticipate integration challenges and deliver robust, future-ready platforms.
Hello Jeremie S.,
Thanks for the question - in my humble opinion, as a Software Architect on the BTS / RAN software side, one big alignment challenge is that platform and hardware choices lock in early while system requirements are still catching up. There's also an upside: you design with real hardware capability and limits in mind, not only on paper. The pain comes when HW and SW keep different milestones after that - integration problems show up late and slow delivery.
For your question on the Director role - from my side it helps when HW and SW are in the same discussion early, before the platform feels done, so we don't get surprised late on things that touch system requirements and architecture.
If you have a specific platform in mind, feel free to send a follow-up.
Best regards,
Casey
