Hi Akash,

Thanks for your message—it's wonderful to hear you're starting out as a software engineer! That curiosity and eagerness to grow already sets you apart.

To stand out, I’d suggest focusing on two things: authenticity and initiative. Passion shines through these 2 pillars, and that reflects in your application for opportunities. Every candidate story is memorable in its own way, but the ones that truly stood out to me were those who came well-prepared, were thoughtful in their responses, and showed genuine passion and drive. I especially admire candidates who are open about their experiences—their challenges, learnings, and their willingness to grow.

I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best in your career! I'm always here if you have any questions.

Warm regards,

Rana

Thank you, Akash, for your thoughtful question. Congratulations on starting your career as a software engineer!

From our perspective, candidates stand out not only through their technical skills but also by showing genuine curiosity and a strong willingness to learn.

One memorable example from our hiring experience was with a junior candidate who didn’t immediately solve the technical challenge during the interview. Instead, they carefully walked us through their reasoning, explained their hypotheses, and shared the rationale behind each step. Even when unsure, they communicated their approach transparently and methodically. This gave us confidence in how they would perform in real-world situations: thoughtful, collaborative, and passionate. That impression is what ultimately led us to hire them.

Our advice to new engineers is simple: stay curious, take ownership of even small tasks, and share what you’re learning. These qualities consistently make candidates and new team members stand out in the best way.

I hope this perspective helps you on your journey, and I wish you the very best in developing your passion and growing as an engineer.
